  • Powder River County Fair A HOT Show

    Aug 1, 2024

This year's forty market hogs topped last year's four decade plus record of thirty-five. There were a variety of sizes, colors and attitudes but all showed and sold well. Most importantly they weathered the heat well, weighing in on the hottest day – Thursday, when temps later in the day hit 109. The fair board already has some ideas to help them move through the back alley with ease for next year, and plans to invest in a few more hog panels. From market beef and beef breeding to market g...

  • Fair Open Class Results

    Aug 1, 2024

By Jackie Beardsley Walking into the large white community center can mean an open and echoing experience, but not during the Powder River County Fair. Powder River County open class competitors bring their best and light up the walls with their art, photography and quilts, while food items, crafts and gardening fill the tables. The County Agent heard from a few fairgoers concerned with the earliness of fair impacting the gardening area, and although the vegetable competition may have been a...

Superintendents, participants and the judge got the day wrapped up by 1:00 PM, beginning the show two hours earlier than originally scheduled. These kids and horses earned every award received on a day that felt like a convection oven. • SENIOR HAPPENINGS

    Aug 1, 2024

By Senior Center Director Tammy Jackman Holy Jalapenos has it been hot or what? Was sure thinking of the animals and kids during fair. A handful of us went down and had lunch from the VFW booth, then took a look around at all the exhibits. It is always fun to see what people have been doing with their time. We had a couple of fun trips in July, the first was Shakespeare in the Park at Poker Jim Lookout. It was a beautiful night; we took a pitch in supper and thoroughly enjoyed the evening. The play that evening was A Winter’s Tale and the t...
