"4K For the Cure" Relay Runners to travel through Broadus

On Tuesday, July 3rd, twenty-five relay runners are scheduled to arrive in Broadus to stay overnight at the Lutheran Church. They are the Relay Team running from San Francisco to Boston! They are just one group of the 2018 “4 K for Cancer” program of the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults.

Because of our wonderful Broadus hospitality to their cross-country bicycle teams the past 3 years (with another scheduled to come through Sunday July 15th), we were contacted to host this cross-country relay running team for the first time.

These college-age young adults left San Francisco on June 17th and will arrive in Boston on August 4th . The group consists of 2 teams that, combined, run for approximately 150-170 miles/day in a relay-style format to reach their destinations. Individual runners average 10-14 miles/day.

The 2 relay teams will be running to Broadus from Billings on July 3rd and then onto Rapid City on July 4th, where they will attend the fireworks display at Mount Rushmore. Pastor Julie Long and Our Savior’s are working to coordinate the evening meal, shower facilities and breakfast. Contact Pastor Julie of you’d like to help with food, water or snacks for the team. Watch for their arrival and departure. Cheer them on. Pray for them. Show these runners our famous Broadus hospitality! These runners will see some amazing parts of our country. Along the way they make several stops to visit cancer patients in cancer treatment centers. “The Ulman Cancer Fund is a non-profit organization that changes lives by creating a community of support for young adults and their loved ones, as they fight cancer and embrace survivorship. Since 2001, groups of college students have undertaken journeys across America with the goal of offering hope, inspiration and support to cancer communities along the way.”
