July weather varied for Powder River County

Area ranchers are busy hauling bales from field to haystacks as a very fine season indeed is coming to a close. Haying was delayed a couple of weeks after a wonderful wet growing season came to pass, and June rains kept many folks from their fields. But that too may have been a good thing, as wheat grass and sweet clover were slow to mature.

This growing season was a savior to many, after two years of getting little to no hay. Many also faced shipping hay in and reducing herd sizes after one of the most brutal winters in local history.
