Evelyn Joyce (Fadhl) Broadus

August 2, 2018

Evelyn Joyce (Fadhl) Broadus lost her battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia on July 26, 2018. Our Mom was born December 29, 1943 to George and Vera (Wood) Fadhl at the home of her Aunt Barbara Schulenberg in Forsyth, Montana. In elementary school, knowing that her Aunt worked at a bar, Mom horrified her own mother by telling everyone that she was born in the back room of the Kokomo Club. Wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, friend – whatever our mother's role, she was beloved by everyone.

Mom attended school in Colstrip, Montana, graduating in 1961. On June 1st, 1961 she married Hugh Broadus and they spent 57 years together on the family ranch on the Rosebud Creek, where they raised their children, Alice and Jarrod. Mom was at the ranch helping Dad and preparing excellent meals for anyone lucky enough to sit at her table, until 1987 when she began her career at Western Energy Co. in the accounting department. She retired in 2012 and spent much of her time after retirement creating beautiful quilts and table runners for family and friends.

Always a music fan, Mom was a member of the Colstrip Coalaires, a Sweet Adelaine group that performed at many community events. In later years she served on the board for SHAC (SchoolHouse History and Art Center) and was always so proud of the work SHAC did in the community from receptions for new exhibits to clases for both children and adults.

Mom is survived by her husband of 57 years, Hugh Broadus; her children: Alice (Tate) Nation and Jarrod (Jo Jay) Broadus; her grandchildren: Paden Nation (fiance Kristen), Jamie (Jesse) Behles, Ben (Caitie) Nation, great-grandson Rowen, Blayne (Rhyan) Broadus, and Taylor Broadus. She is also survived by her three sisters: Nancy Wernke, Georgia (David) Even, and Debra (Pete) Nolan; and two sisters-in-law: Betty (Dick) Imer, and Ellen (Fred) Caruso. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank Dr. Silva at the Billings Clinic, his staff, and her favorite intern, Dr. Patterson, for giving us an extra 7 months with our Mom. Also, many thanks to the staff at the Billings Clinic Infusion Center, the Neutropenic Wing at the hospital, and Riverstone Hospice House for the excellent care that Mom received during her illness. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials in Evelyn's name be addressed to SHAC, P. O. Box 430, Colstrip, MT 59323, for a project to be named at a later date.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at the Broudus Family Ranch located 13 miles South of Colstrip. Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. Sunday, September 2, 2018 at the Lee Cemtetery in Colstrip. Stevenson and Sons have been entrusted with the arrangements.
