Hawk Football unable to stop Circle's Offense
September 27, 2018
Despite causing three turnovers against Circle at last weekend's home game, the Broadus Hawks Football team wasn't able to overcome the Circle Widcat's offense.
"Our defense struggled with tackles," Broadus Head Coach Ross Randall said of the game. On many plays the Hawks had a tough time bringing down their opponents on initial contact, allowing Circle to move down the field at a steady pace. "Circle's QB was tall, fast, and hard to bring down," Randall noted.
In addition to their defensive woes, the Hawks struggled with injuries. Troy Amsden was out for the game, and both Dalton Wahl and Thomas Drane were injured during the game. With three star Seniors out, Broadus was in a tough spot, and other players had to fill in as best they could.
"Clay LaPlant played a great game on defense," Randall said. LaPlant had 10 solo tackles, as well as 5 assists.
"Corbin Irish ran the ball really well," the Head Coach commented on his young back. The Freshman ran for 66 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Despite the effort, Broadus fell behind early and stayed behind; the Hawks were not able to capitalize on the turnovers and lost the game, 52-26.
This loss puts Broadus at 2-3 on the season. Randall said that if Broadus wins out the regular season, they should have a shot at the playoffs. With the next three games, those playoff chances remain a distinct possibility, as Broadus hosts Plentywood this weekend for Homecoming, then goes on the road to play St. Labre and Lodge Grass. The Hawks will finish out their regular season with a tough game against Scobey, on the road.
"Plentywood has a real quick running back, and a tough nose guard, so we can't let our guard down this weekend," Randall said. The Hawks hope to return their injured players for the Plentywood game.
