Hawks win big on Senior Night

Brian Hopkins runs through a wide open hole for a two point conversion against St. Labre.

It didn't take long for Broadus Hawk football to score on Friday, against St. Labre. Broadus ran the initial kick-off back for a touchdown, and kept the throttle down, leading to a 42-0 score after the first quarter.

The cold evening also happened to be Pink Night to raise money for the local breast cancer fund, as well as Parent's Night for the Senior Hawks.

The Hawk defense contributed "bigly" to the offense, accounting for three touchdowns on their own. The defense made two interceptions and returns for touchdowns, as well as a fumble recovery by Christian MiddleRider in the end-zone for a touchdown. The defense also stopped St. Labre's offense, which couldn't seem to get much going.

After the first quarter, Broadus pulled the majority of their older players, and put in a number of the up and coming Hawks to get them more playing time and experience.

"Gavin Severiede, Christian MiddleRider, Kyle Minow, and Johnny Richards really stood out for us," Coach Ross Randall said during a Monday interview about his younger Hawks. Even with the younger players in, St. Labre wasn't able to get their offense going, and their punts only sailed a few yards at best, setting Broadus up for good field position. Broadus would win the game, 76-0. Stats from the game were not available, as the camera Broadus was using to film quit working part way through the game.

The Hawks traveled to Lodge Grass on Thursday, after our deadline, which was a change from the original Saturday scheduling for the game. The change was made after the Scobey game date was bumped up to next Wednesday, which would've put the Hawks on short rest after Lodge Grass.

The Scobey game, which takes place in Scobey, will be a tough one, according to Randall. Both teams share the same 4-3 record, and is expected to be a good matchup. Broadus will need to win the game (as well as the Lodge Grass game) to advance to playoffs.

The Scobey game is scheduled to be broadcast on nemont.tv, which is available online for those who don't want to make the drive nearly all the way to Canada. Action begins at 6 PM on Wednesday, October 17, according to the school schedule.
