Horace (Ace) Goodwin

Horace (Ace) Goodwin 87 passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 10, 2018. Ace was born in Paducah, Ky. June 22, 1931 to Fred and Margaret Goodwin. He moved to Chicago, IL. when he was 6 years old and to Montana when he was 16. He worked for different ranchers along with doing some trucking. He purchased his first place at Otter, Mt. in 1954. He then served in the Army and Army Reserves. Soon after returning from the service, he married Addie Powell on June 6, 1958. To them were born three children, June, Jim and Harry.

He went to work for the U.S. Forest service at Fort Howes Ranger Station in 1959. He retired from the FMO Fire Position in 1982. He moved onto contract haying and ranching and took on the bus driving route to A.P.S. In each step of his journey, he enjoyed his work and worked hard at whatever he was doing. He enjoyed his family, friends, playing cards and going to Deadwood. His children and grandchildren were the highlights of his life.


He is survived by his wife Addie of 60 years, daughter June (Ryan) Reid, sons Jim (Cindy) Goodwin, Harry (Diana) Goodwin. Grandchildren Kala (Josh) Whitworth, Colton (Amy) Reid, Collin (Carmen) Reid, Jim (Johnna) Goodwin, Ashley (Travus) Eisenman, Amy (Mike) Demaray, Melissa Goodwin (Mitch Bloxham), Jessica Goodwin (Spencer King) and 7 great grandchildren, Scarlett Whitworth, Wyatt, Abbie and Sam Reid, Noah Goodwin, Kylie and Emma Demaray and many Nieces and Nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Geneva and Dorothy.

In Lieu of flowers, Memorials may be sent to Rebecca Notti Memorial Scholarship fund at First Interstate Bank, Box 2007 Sheridan, Wy. 82801 or Riverstone Health Hospice Home at 2230 Mission way, Billings Mt. 59102.


A funeral service will be held Friday October 19, 2018, at 12 noon at the St. Labre Catholic Church in Ashland, MT. There will be a luncheon following the service, at the St. Labre cafeteria.
