The Senior Lady Hawks prepare to receive a serve during their final home game.

The Broadus Lady Hawk Volleyball Team closed out their regular season last week with a couple of tough losses, against St. Labre and Wibaux. Despite the losses, Broadus remained in third place in the District, which puts them in good position going into tournaments, beginning this Thursday in Glendive.

Kiarah Coulter is escorted by her mother, Kristie Coulter. Kiarah has been playing volleyball for 7 years. Her favorite memory in the sport is going to state in Bozeman her freshman and sophomore years. She would like to thank Coach Gord for being a great coach and always believing in her. She would like to thank her mom for being the loudest cheerleader. Finally, she would like to thank her Grandpa and Grandma for never missing a game.

The match against St. Labre, which took place in Ashland last Tuesday, was lost in Broadus in three sets. "We came out good in the first set, and it could've gone either way," Broadus Coach Gordon Archer spoke during a Monday interview. The teams fought to the end, but St. Labre came out ahead, 28-26. After that first game, Broadus had passing issues, and lost the next two sets 25-14 and 25-8. "I'll give St. Labre and their coach a lot of credit. They've really improved this season," Archer commented. Broadus, as well as many other teams, had beat up on St. Labre pretty badly in volleyball over the past few seasons, so it's good to see our neighbors to the west improving.

Broadus then faced Wibaux for Parent's Night, which also was the final regular season match for Broadus. "I was pleased with the girls' reaction. We learned we could play right with Wibaux when we played well. We just need to be more consistent and play that way through a full match," Archer said.

Broadus would fall to Wibaux in three sets, 25-18, 25-17 and 25-16.

The Lady Hawks travel to Glendive this week for the District Tournament, with their first match taking place at Noon Thursday, against Terry. Broadus has beat Terry in both regular season matches this year. Three teams will advance on to Divisionals, which will be held in Sidney, next week. A District Tournament bracket is available on page 9.
