Patty Phillippi

Treasurer/Assessor

November 1, 2018

In anticipation of the election on November 6th, The Examiner sent out interview questions to the local candidates. Though all of the local elections are un-opposed for the general election, we felt that an introduction would be newsworthy and informative for the readers. The local candidates on the ballot include: Lee Randall, County Commissioner, Allen Drane, Jr., Sheriff/Coroner, Pat Phillippi, Treasurer, Cynde Jo Gatlin, Clerk & Recorder, Cathy Landa, Justice of the Peace, Jeff Noble, County Attorney, Molly Lloyd, Superintendent of Schools, and Phoebe Amsden, Public Administrator. We printed the first three candidates last week. The responses have been printed with minimal editing. Pat and Lee's responses are reprints from their interviews before the primaries, with pertinent information added to reflect updates which have come about since June 5.

My name is Patty Phillippi. I moved to Broadus in 1966 and graduated from Powder River County High School in 1968. At Billings Business College my major was Accounting and Business with a 2-year degree. I am married to Vic Phillippi and we have a son Hank and two granddaughters, Payton (Colton) Kraft and Easton. As parents and grandparents know, having children and grandchildren leads to the opportunity for many unpaid positions and chances to volunteer. Many of you know me as a quilter. I have been a member of the Stitch and Chatter Quilt Club since 1984 and also a member of the Wyoming State Quilt Guild from 2003 until now. During a 9-year period I taught 29 young people in my home to sew and quilt. Since the early 1980's I have been an Election Judge volunteer at the Primary and General elections. 1974 was the first year I volunteered to donate blood for the Red Cross. I have continued to donate 2 or 3 times a year since that time for United Blood Services. Volunteering at the recycling center since its inception has been a very rewarding experience. I worked for Farmers Co-op Association for 30 years. After working for the Co-op I worked 5 years part time for Jeff Noble doing discovery for his cases. My interest in accounting led me to apply for a clerk in the Treasurer's Office, which I was awarded. I have been a Notary for the past 35 years and use it often in the office.

My assets are having an accounting and business background. I am trustworthy, dependable, accurate to the penny, precise, willing to spend the time it takes to do things correctly, and capable and willing to embrace positive changes to run the office in the most efficient manner possible. My 8-year experience in the Treasurer's office helps me to understand what it takes to do a good job while working with the other County and School entities.

The Department of Revenue has taken our Assessor from this county. The Treasurer's Office will be getting a large portion of the workload. I have been doing some training and there will be more. Being able to provide the taxpayer with the answers to their questions is the goal.

The credit card machine is up and running at the Treasurer's Office, which means folks are able to pay for vehicle licensing with a credit card. A credit card fee will be charged if someone wants to use their card. The Nursing Home Physical Therapy Department, as well as the Powder River Medical Clinic also have card machines.

This office would like to continue to work in the best interest of the taxpayers. I would like the opportunity to be caretaker of the taxpayers' money and serve the office for the next 4 years as the County Treasurer.
