Going 3-for-3 in Chicago, Lockwood remains perfect in 2019 - now 8-for-8

CHICAGO – Continuing his red-hot momentum from New York City, 2017 PBR (Professional Bull Riders) World Champion Jess Lockwood (Volborg, Montana) once again delivered a flawless performance, going a perfect 3-for-3 to win the Chicago Invitational. Also victorious last weekend at the season-launch Major event in the Big Apple, Lockwood, who is now 8-for-8 in 2019, is the first bull rider since J.B. Mauney (Statesville, North Carolina) in 2007 to win the first two regular-season elite tour events.

"Gosh, I just feel so good right now," Lockwood said. "I feel like I'm firing on all cylinders and I'm back to the form I was when I won the world title. But I also know it's early in the season and there's like 26 more events to go. I just have to take it one bull at a time, one event at a time and as long as I do my job I'll continue to be successful."

On Saturday, Lockwood began his third career appearance inside Allstate Arena with a victory, winning Round 1 courtesy of his 88.5-point ride aboard Show Me Homie (TCB Ranch/K-C Bucking Bulls). He followed that with a second-place finish in Round 2, making the 8 aboard Deaconator (Phenom Genetics) for 88 points.

Leading the aggregate heading into the championship round, Lockwood, the last man to erupt from the chutes, needed a score 87.75 points to overtake then event-leader Chase Outlaw (Hamburg, Arkansas).

Drafting Rising Sun (Dakota Rodeo/ Chad Berger/ Clay Struve/ Heald Pro Bulls), Lockwood knew he had the bull power necessary to earn the required marks. A familiar foe for the Montana man, the duo last met during Round 5 of the 2018 PBR World Finals when they combined for a score of 89.5 points.

Proving he was up to the challenge again, the 21-year-old made the 8, putting up a monster score of 90.5 points, his second 90-point ride of the season, to earn his second consecutive event win of the year.

Lockwood's qualified rides on Sunday were his 7th & 8th consecutive 8-second efforts after he went 4-for-4 last weekend to win the league's season-opening event in New York City. He also rode in the first 15/15 Bucking Battle of the season while in NYC, finishing second.

For the event win, Lockwood netted $41,280.00 and 640 world points. The victory further cemented his spot atop the world standings, now 987.5 points ahead of No. 2 Outlaw.

Outlaw's comeback story continued as he finished second, going a perfect 3-for-3 during the two-day event. He started the weekend off by riding Trouble Maker (Bronco's Bucking Bulls) for 87 points in Round 1, before conquering Lethal Larry (Phenom Genetics/Hatfield/Fecho) in Round 2 for 87.5 points.

With his first 90-point score of the year, Outlaw made a huge ride aboard Big Black (K-C Bucking Bulls/Joe & Nina Webb) in the championship round, earning 90.25 points and briefly giving him the lead. It is just the second time the big, black bovine has been ridden on the premier series.

Jake Lockwood, younger brother of Jess, rode in the Reno Invitational Rodeo in the PBR Velocity Tour over the weekend. Jake scored a 86 in first round on the bull Rez Rocket, tieing for 6th place in the round. Jake didn't score in the second round, which took him out of the hunt for the championship.
