Broadus 5th Grader Kayleigh Opstedahl competed in the Montana State Spelling Bee last Saturday at Rocky Mountain College in Billings. Kayleigh won the local competition in Broadus, which put her into the Treasure State Spelling Bee, competing against 59 other students from across Montana. Kayleigh made it through the first round, spelling "caboose" correctly, going out in the second round on "pundit". The State Winner, 6th grader Clara Harmon from the Helena Area Christian Home Educators, won the meet in the 19th round by correctly spelling "apothecary" and "bachelorette".

Kayleigh says she is preparing more for next year's competition, where she hopes to return to the State Spelling Bee.
