Helen Orestad

Spring Creek, Mizpah News

Helen Orestad celebrated her 95th birthday at the end of February. She had cake brought by Tom and Lillian Ostendorf, and her other daughter Donna Balsam was also there. She celebrated with her friends at Hearts And Home Assisted Living. Helen also had many other visitors for her special day scattered through the week. The Norwegian Relatives sent her flowers which she was really thankful for.

Calving season is upon the neighborhood. There has been snow, melting, and flooding. There are reports of water that ran where no one has seen water run in the past.

MaryAnn and Dan Johnson visited Helen at Hearts and Home.

Mollie Phipps went to Billings and stayed with her sister Martha Mintz to bring home the Krispy Kreme doughnuts for the Custer County 4-H Council fundraiser. She delivered a special box to Helen, and then took her to Chinese lunch and to the chiropractor.

Lillian Ostendorf spoke at a Farm Bureau Conference in Idaho this past January. She also joined the conference on tours of the area in Idaho. She then went to FUSION conference in Milwaukee Wisconsin. She helped facilitate workshops, toured a dairy, and helped with the conference as part of her duties as the Western Region Women's Chairperson for Farm Bureau. FUSION is a joining of multiple Farm Bureau committees, Young Farmers and Ranchers, Women's Committee, and Promotion and Education.

Monte Mallett suffered a fall where he broke his neck and ribs and was airlifted to Billings for surgery. He returned home to the ranch with his wife Sonja. After a couple of weeks he passed away unexpectedly. He will be missed greatly in our community, and we all send much love and sympathy to his family.

Robert, Michael, and Mollie Phipps went to Forsyth to the dentist. Madonna Balsam tagged along with and enjoyed some shopping and a nice drive.

Thomas O'Malley visited the Spring Creek School on St. Patrick's Day. He hails from Ireland, and has yet to be caught by students. He left chaos and green gifts, and mayhem everywhere. He was excited to find no traps this year!

Tyler and Luke Jurica wrestled in Glendive on March 6th. Tyler placed second. Good Job!

Martha and Mike Mintz and family were visitors at the ranch this past weekend. They enjoyed the baby calves and warm weather.
