Broadus Track competes at Lambert

April 25, 2019

The Broadus Track team competed at Sidney Meet in Lambert last week, with the Twilight Meet in Colstrip canceled due to weather.

Broadus Head Coach Jerry Coulter said the meet in Lambert was one of the toughest of the year, with competition from much larger schools such as Miles City, Sidney, and Glendive, and around 100 competitors in each event. “The meet was difficult, to say the least,” Coulter commented.

Lambert is an interesting place to hold a large track meet – Richland County has enough money from oilfield funds to make a nice track in a town the size of Lambert (population 158), where oil derricks can be seen pumping that sweet crude from the track itself.

Despite the tough competition and biting wind, several Broadus competitors placed, with Luke Herzog winning the 800 meter race, Rachel Rasmussen placing 8th in the 3200 meter, and Kiarah Coulter taking 9th in the javelin, 7th in the shot put, and 5th in the long jump with a personal best 16’ 1 3/4” jump.

This week the team will compete at the Harlowton/Park City Meet in Laurel on Saturday, with action beginning at 10 AM.
