"4K For the Cure" Relay Runners coming through town

By Julie Long

Next Tuesday, July 2nd, twenty eight college-aged relay runners are scheduled to arrive for an overnight stay at the Lutheran Church. They represent the “4K for Cancer” program of the Ulman Cancer Foundation for Young Adults. This relay group is Team Boston. They began their run across America from San Francisco on June 16th and are scheduled to arrive in Boston August 3rd. They consist of 2 teams, that combined, run for approximately 150-170 miles/day in a relay-style format to reach scheduled destinations. Individual runners average 10-14 miles/day. Along the way they make several stops to visit cancer patients in cancer treatment centers. This will be our second year hosting a relay team and our 4th year hosting the Team Seattle bicycle team, who will arrive here July 14th. We provide the evening and breakfast meals and arrange for showers. Pastor Julie and Molly Lloyd are coordinating this effort. You are invited to offer food or drink donations. Four teams of relay runners and bicyclists travel 4,000 miles (4K) across the U.S. to earn money and bring awareness to young adult cancer. All participants have a direct connection to cancer and many are cancer survivors themselves. Watch for their arrival and departure. Cheer them on. Pray for them. Show them our famous Broadus hospitality.

The Ulman Cancer Fund is a non-profit organization that changes lives by creating a community of support for young adults and their loved ones, as they fight cancer and embrace survivorship.
