Broadus hosts first Cross Country Meet

The first ever Broadus Cross Country Meet was held at Rolling Hills Golf Course, on Tuesday, September 17th.

Eight teams from the around the area attended the event, according to Broadus Cross Country Coach Ashley Emmons. The meet featured 207 competitors, in both boys and girls high school 5000 meter Varsity races, as well as JV races, and 1.5 mile junior high races.

The Broadus runners – Rachel Rasmussen, Rheanna Schroeder, Chalee Harms, and Samantha Perry faced stiff competition from teams including Belle Fourche, Miles City, St. Labre, and Colstrip, while Lame Deer, Sacred Heart, Busby, Ashland, and the above mentioned teams also brought runners for the junior high meet.

Sawyer Clarkson of Belle Fourche came in first in the Boys Varsity 3.1 mile race, with a time of 17 minutes and 20.40 seconds. In the Boys JV, McKinley Back Bone of St. Labre won the race with a time of 20:49.54. In the JH Boys, Maverick Niece of Washington Middle School (Miles City) finished the 1.5 mile race with a time of 9:12.79.

In the Girls JH race, Brookley Ewing of St. Labre took first place with a time of 10:51.70. In the Junior Varsity 3.1 mile race, Addy Muhm of Belle Fourche took first with a time of 24:41.63. In the Girls Varsity, Hayley Burns of Colstrip won the race with a time of 20 minutes, 13.82 seconds.

The four Broadus runners, Rachel Rasmussen, Rheanna Schroeder, Chalee Harms, and Samantha Perry, also ran in the Girls Varsity race, with respective times of 28:49.49, 29:06:57, 32:51.82, and 33:30.72.

On September 20th, the Broadus Cross Country team traveled to Colstrip with Rachel, Chalee, and Samantha all achieving their personal records for the season. Coach Ashley Emmons mentioned that Rheanna Schroeder didn’t run in Colstrip due to an arch injury, but is expected to return for the next meet, where the full team will run this Saturday at St. Labre.
