In the final home match of the season last Friday, the Broadus Lady Hawk Volleyball team hosted the Terry Lady Terriers.

Broadus needed to win the match against Terry in three sets in order to move up to 5th in the conference standings, thus assuring themselves more even matchups in this week's District tournament in Glendive.

The Terry match would also be the last home stand for the Lady Hawks' two seniors – Karli Collins and Jadyn Traub. Before the games, both seniors and their parents were recognized for their years of dedication to the sport.

Broadus came out hot in the first set, but Terry kept up quite well, threatening to overtake the lead on several occasions. Broadus led handily through most of the match, except for a short period early in the third set where the score was tied.

The Lady Hawks looked strong throughout the match, working well together in front of the home crowd, and also looking much improved from early season matches.

"I saw a sense of determination in the team which I've seen a few times this season, and hope to see again at tournaments," Coach Gordon Archer spoke of the team's grit, during a Monday interview.

With the Lady Hawks up double digit points in the third set, Coach Archer pulled his Seniors, giving Traub and Collins a hug as the crowd cheered for the soon to be retiring athletes.

Broadus would overwhelm Terry, winning 25-22, 25-13, and 25-13 to finish the season fifth in the conference, at 5-7 in conference play. The conference standings from first to sixth place are Wibaux, Ekalaka, Circle, Jordan, Broadus, Terry.

Oliveah Schaffer saves the play with a behind the back dig.

Archer is confident in his team going into tournaments, and is looking forward to the tournament, commenting: "It's a whole new season at tournaments".

The District Tournament will take place at Dawson Community College in Glendive, on Thursday and Friday of this week. Broadus goes into the tournament seated 5th, and will face off against #4 ranked Jordan at 9:30 on Thursday morning.

Broadus split the regular season matches with Jordan, so the matchup on Thursday is sure to be a good one to watch.
