Wrestlers place at Hardin

February 6, 2020

The PRCDHS Wrestling Squad took to the mats in Colstrip, last Tuesday for a mixer with Colstrip and Forsyth, before traveling to Hardin for the Battle on the Bighorn match Saturday.

The Colstrip Mixer featured Broadus wrestlers in six out of ten matches. Broadus Head Coach Frankie Schoonover said that the tough competition of the Colstrip and Forsyth teams made for good matches, with Broadus wrestlers going six minutes in nearly all the matches.

“Seth McDowell wrestled well. Corbin Irish was able to face a competitor he may see at Divisionals, so that was great practice. Josiah Middle Rider wrestled really well against Colstrip’s Heavy Weight, and he applied a technique we’ve been using in practice to help his game. Overall the mixer was a great success,” Schoonover commented.

Only two Hawks competed at Hardin, with injuries plaguing both Dakota Holbrook and Corbin Irish.

“Kyle Minow came out at Hardin and wrestled outstanding,” Coach Schoonover said. “Though he only won one match, he showed great progress. I look forward to seeing what Kyle is able to do as his wrestling progresses.” Minow would take 5th in the tournament at 182 lbs.

“Josiah had the tournament of his life – he came out like a man on a mission,” Frankie beamed as he described his 205 lb wrestler’s performance at Hardin. “He never stopped moving, and was able to beat a guy from our division to take third place at 205 lbs.

Next on the agenda: Divisionals at Huntley Project. The Hawks will look to continue their season on to State, but first they must overcome the challengers on Saturday. Action begins at 10 AM Saturday; Schoonover tells us the tournament actually takes place in Worden.

With 10 teams from both Class B and C to contend with, and only four wrestlers from each weight class moving on to State, the Hawks will have their work cut out for them. The four Broadus wrestlers competing at Divisionals include Corbin Irish wrestling at 138, Dakota Holbrook at 170, Kyle Minow at 182, and Josiah Middle Rider at 205.
