Rumph Sets Pace for Freedom Run 5-mile

Taylor Rumph set the pace at the 5-mile Freedom Run held last Saturday, winning the race in a time of 30.33 minutes, a time he almost matched in 2010, 30.28 minutes, when he was just 16 years old.
"I liked the course," explained Rumph, who was back home in Broadus to celebrate the nation's birthday. Rumph later played in the softball tournament and golfed, earning the unofficial "Iron Man" title for the weekend's activities. Joan Jilka, who has perhaps run every race in the 29-year Freedom Run history, came in first in the women's division with a time of 40.28 minutes.
Additional 5-mile runners included Camille Simmons (49.00), Denni Schuetzle (59.44), Sassa Wilson (59.44) and Danny Johnson (38.43). Walkers in the 5-mile were Mary and Jackie Rumph, Evan Ramsay, Elizabeth Emeline, Nancy Kane and Mary Roig.
Cooper Zimmer won the 1-mile race in the male division with a time of 7:04; Rheanna Schroeder won in the female division with a time of 7:51. Additional runners in the 1-mile male division were Ezra Gotfredson (7:54), Jayce Schroeder (9.58) and Chas Gaskill (11.20)*. In the female division, runners included Maddie Zimmer (8.19), Danica Schroeder (9:03), Kayleigh Opstedahl (9.13), Farrah Gaskill (10:15)*, Peyton Simmons (10:38)*, Jordyn Schroeder (10:46), Ryder Opstedahl, with mom, Libby Nisley (10:57) and Scarlett Talcott (11:42) and Ciara McDowell and Zeason Schaffer (14.48), Maddy Reierson with Kate Riley, James Riley and Kyle Copelan (15.39) . Walkers in the 1-mile included John, Kristy and Jack Elgin, Sherry, Coaly, Fallon and Malin Huckins, Porter and Shanna Talcott, Dawn Mraz, Krista Gotfredson, Twila Talcott, Katie Ward, DeeDee Chiesa, Karen Gunther, Sue Schaefer, Jen and Allie Bird, Elizabeth and Phil Reierson and Julie Riley. *mark those runners who got a late start.
Volunteers for the event were Nick Knoblauch, Alyson Ragsdale, Dina Gay and her sister Karen, Karen Amende, Katie Ward and Julie Riley who were stationed along the route to assist with directions; Vanna Byrd, Molly Lloyd and Kelda Page who assisted with registration; Jerry Coulter who timed each event; and Fire Department volunteers Lee Turnbough and Dan McDowell with Macyn, who flagged the highway. The event was sponsored by the School Community Development Council and organized by the Powder River Trails and MSU Extension Service – Powder River County. All proceeds support maintenance of the trail system.
