Senior Center Happenings

August 13, 2020

By Pat Ridenour

Well folks, it has been a long 5 months since there has been any news of the Senior Center and its goings on.

I'm pleased to say the Senior Center will be opening soon with Rita Harden as the new Director. I have spent parts of the last two weeks showing her the "ropes" and helping her get the feel of the duties she has signed on for. She will do great and for the most part things will probably stay the same. There will be a few tweaks with COVID-19 still lurking around the corner.

Congregate Meals started Wednesday, August 12th at the Bowling Alley with Dine-In AND Pickup service available. As long as there is room in the Bowling Alley to sit at the designated tables, you can eat in- with Social Distancing of Tables, with several people to each table. I hope everyone will be comfortable with the new regulations, for the time being.

The Senior Center is set to open Monday, August 17th. We will be serving cookies and coffee at 10 AM for refreshments. The Center will be open Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday 9 AM to 4 PM and Thursday 12 noon to 5 PM. We were able to purchase 3 new steel storage cabinets for the main hall, along with one given to us, as well as a new desk and storage units for the office and vault.

500 Card Club will be starting up soon also. Please keep in mind the new rules we need to live by-social distancing and masks, four people to a table, tables a safe distance apart, and staying home if you are ill. We will have hand sanitizer and a no-touch thermometer for our use at the Center.

The Senior Center will also continue to be the place to pick up Commodities and Food Bank items. Ground beef is available to Commodities and Food Bank clients. Please ask for it. Help with Weatherization-LIEAP- time will be here soon and Rita can help you with filling out those forms, too.

Linda Wolff will be coming to the Senior Center to meet with those of you who are 'coming of age' for Medicare as well as Medicare Part D which helps to pay for your medications. Please call for her schedule and for making appointments to see her.

I will be in the Center occasionally to play 500 Cards or for general support of the Center. I had rotator cuff surgery on June 5th and am doing well, thanks to Dr. Brooke and the ladies at Powder River Health, therapists at the Manor, Rhonda Rosencranz and my "right arm lady", Kylie Randall. I am doing better than they expected and am able to do some quilting and even some scraping and painting after only 9 weeks since surgery.

This is the third time I said I was going to retire-maybe this will be the right time! I have enjoyed working with the community and especially the Ladies and Gentlemen that have been part of the Senior Happenings. YOU are the BEST!

Take care, stay safe, and be kind to one another.
