Broadus Hawk football made another long drive to Northeast Montana last weekend, to face the 1-2 Culbertson Cowboys. Broadus went into the game sharing the same record, looking to even out their record at 2-2.

Broadus Head Coach Ross Randall told us that he led off with a trick play, featuring a snap to Cooper Zimmer, who tossed the ball to QB Wyatt Gee, who in turn threw to Wideout Solomon Bradley, who ran the ball 54 yards before he was brought down at the 3-yard line. The play would prove to be somewhat pyrrhic, as Bradley was injured on the play, but nonetheless the momentum was with the Hawks. The Hawks quickly scored, and on Culbertson's first possession, Broadus forced a punt and scored on the ensuing drive, putting Broadus up by two scores.

The Hawks would continue to lead through the 1st and second quarters, with a score of 12-8 after one, and 28-20 going into the half. Culbertson's quarterback was able to scramble for some big gains in the first half to keep the score close, but the Broadus coaches were able to dial up a containment strategy in the second half, which kept Culbertson at bay. After three quarters, the score remained 28-20, Broadus on top.

Randall had been using his rushing offense to pound the ball all night long, and by the fourth quarter the constant pressure started to wear on the big Culbertson team. Broadus was able to take advantage of their opponent's weariness and finish the night with a win, putting up 28 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to finish 56-20.

"We played well on both sides of the ball," Randall said of the win. Kyle Minow, Johnny Richards, and Corbin Irish all had two touchdowns each. Wyatt Gee had 83 yards of passing, and one TD throw. Cooper Zimmer, normally a JV player, was able to get some playing time at the QB spot, throwing three times, once for a TD.

On the defensive side of the ball, Kyle Minow led the Hawks with 10 solo tackles, while Corbin Irish had 9.

Broadus is now tied for 4th in the conference with Ekalaka, holding a 2-2 record. MonDak leads the conference at 4-0, followed by Fairview at 3-0 and Scobey at 3-1. This weekend Broadus has a bye, and will return to the field next weekend for Homecoming against Circle, on Saturday, October 3rd.
