Stroll on in to Broadus this Friday and help support local businesses

December 3, 2020

As the sun set last Sunday, another hunting season in Montana drew to a close. COVID-19 and a drought conditions made for unique and challenging hunting conditions this season. Regardless of whether or not a tag was notched, there is no denying that those who pursue our wild game are treated with the wonderful sights of Big Sky Country, like the photo above, captured while engaged in the hunt.

The Powder River Chamber of Commerce and Ag's Annual Christmas Stroll will take place this Friday, with the theme this year of "A Very Merry COVID Christmas."

For those looking to purchase Christmas gifts and support local businesses, the stroll is a great time to do so, as many businesses are running specials during the stroll. The decision to shop locally instead of going out of town to shop at big box stores or online at large retailers is a huge help to the local community. When shopping at a local business, $68 of every $100 stays in the community, according to a 2008 study conducted in Grand Rapids, Michigan. When spending the same at a non-local business like a national chain, essentially zero dollars stay in our local community. Local businesses reinvest those dollars back into the community through local taxes, direct spending on goods and services, and supporting community organizations like the Broadus Sports Boosters or sponsoring and donating to worthy causes like the Scramble 4 A Cure Golf Tournament. By spending money locally, you're investing in your community.

The Chamber is once again sponsoring a local shopping incentive, so as you're making qualified purchases at participating retailers up until December 4th, get your "Ticket to a Cozy COVID Christmas" punched for a chance to win the grand prize drawing. Pick up your ticket at Alderman Oil, Broadus Boot & Tack, Jane's Weathered Antiques, Powder River Petals, Silver Sage, Western Chick or The Daisy Patch. Get your ticket punched at each business, write your name and contact info on the back and drop it in the Christmas mailbox at Gardner & Billing CPAs by the end of the stroll to be entered into the drawing.

Here is a list of stroll activities at local businesses which we've heard about as of Tuesday:

Senior Citizen Center will hold a bake sale and 50/50 ticket sales from 4 pm-7 pm, an opportunity for kids to write letters to Santa and a drawing for a goodie bag. The center will be helping with the Chamber's Christmas tree lighting by encouraging folks to memorialize their loved ones with an ornament on the Chamber tree.

Broadus Insurance will be serving roasted chestnuts, hot dogs and hot chocolate from 4-7 pm.

Fleming & Long Insurance will hold door prize drawings for all ages at 6 pm, as well as serving drinks, s'mores, Powder River Premium tri-tip sliders & homemade cowboy beans and hosting special guest, Jess Lockwood.
