December 17, 2020

Austin Lee Olson, 26, of Billings, Montana passed away on December 3rd, 2020 at Billings Clinic Hospital surrounded by family and friends.

He was born March 28, 1994 in Spearfish, South Dakota to Christy (Himelspach) & Leon Olson. The family later moved to Carlin, Nevada when Austin was 3 months old. Austin attended Carlin Elementary and then moved to Spring Creek, Nevada for Jr High and High School. Austin graduated from Spring Creek High School in June 2012. During Austin's teen years, he wrestled, played football and became a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church. He later went on to higher education at Great Basin College earning his Diesel Mechanic Certification on a MTC scholarship in 2014. Once graduated, he began working at Barrick Goldstrike as a heavy equipment mechanic. In 2018, he moved to Billings, Montana to begin work for North Star Entertainment and later took his current position at TW Enterprises as a generator mechanic, all the while making some of his closest friends.

Austin was a loving child who was always willing to help. He attended many brandings and loved to spend time with his family. Growing up he learned to quilt & embroidery with his Grandma, played sports with his brother and spent countless hours in a garage with his dad learning how to work on vehicles. He could troubleshoot any problem and loved to take things apart and reassemble things just so he would know how they worked.

At a young age, Austin had proved to be a very stubborn child. His favorite story was when his grandpa told him to take a nap. Austin looked at his grandpa straight in the eye, pointed a finger at him and told him "No". He then just walked off. It is unknown if he did take a nap that day.

Austin was a big man, but his size was dwarfed by his giant heart. He was loved by all who had the opportunity to meet him. Austin never met a stranger and was always ready to start a conversation with anybody. He had an outgoing personality that many were drawn to. Austin was known for his witty personality and quick comebacks. Austin was a unique individual with a kind and gentle soul whose smile could light a room. He loved his family, friends, and all animals. Austin loved to visit and hangout with his friends and family, but always made sure to spend quality time with his dogs. Not only did Austin love his dogs Bandit & Dallie; he also loved his friends and family's dogs. He especially loved his nieces and nephews (both blood and adopted) as if they were his own.

Most of all he loved Michaela (Mikie) Christensen. Austin first met Mikie in January 2019 and officially started dating in June 2019. Together they made many memories. Austin and Mikie loved to go fishing, camping, and taking long drives together. They would often go on sushi dates, have game nights, or enjoy quiet nights in with their dog Dallie. Although their time together was short, the love Austin and Mikie had for each other was lifelong.

Austin had an artist's soul. He spent countless hours creating. Austin loved to weld and do leatherwork. He made crosses, wine racks and fire pit grills out of horseshoes and scrap metal and many other items out of leather. Austin would then give his creations to his loved ones. He enjoyed exploring the outdoors, whether it was camping, snowmobiling, or fishing.

The world lost a great man when Austin passed. His legacy will always be remembered by friends and family who truly loved him. The world would be a better place if there were more people like Austin in it.

He was preceded in death by his Great Grandparents, Lee, Naomi (Katie), Joe, Opal; Grandparents, John & Ruby; Uncle Jimmy and 2nd cousin Frank.

He is survived by his girlfriend Michaela (Mikie), Mother Christy (Ty), Father Leon (Kim), Brother Gerald (Mandy), and Half Brother Ethan. Grandparents Gerald & Janet, Uncles Mike (Caroline), Jon (Kathy), Eddie (Sherry), Duane, and Grant (Mary). Aunts Twila (Lonnie), Tracy, Tena, Linda (Johnny).
