Steps For Charity Challenge
Week 1
February 19, 2021
READY, SET, WALK!
100 people!! 25 teams…that’s $1,000 raised for local charities! That’s awesome!
Congratulations to each of you for walking! People are walking on treadmills, walking to the post office, walking to work and walking during their coffee breaks! What an amazing and motivated group of walkers, despite the frigid winter weather.
Thirteen Charities!
There are 13 well-deserving charities. Each week, the charities, their teams, and members will be highlighted. The first charity showcased is the Aidan Kenelly Medical Fund, chosen by four Steps for Charity teams.
Aidan Kenelly, a Broadus high school teen, was in a car accident last December and suffered a traumatic brain injury and broken jaw. Each day since, Aidan has had to fight to improve his health and regain his normal life. He faces a long, healing road ahead with physical, speech and occupational therapy. Aidan was active in Broadus Hawks football, basketball, band, and FFA. He loves hunting and helping neighboring ranches in Powder River County. Aidan is a delightfully kind person to all he meets. His mother, Lynn, said that in the hospital “he is charming all his nurses with his eyes and spontaneous smiles.”
A benefit for Aidan is scheduled for Saturday, March 6, at the VFW Hall in Broadus.
Steps for Charity teams and the members walking for Aidan are:
Living La Vida Lockdown, who are Morgan Weller, Vikki Klemm, Kerry Gardner and Darlynn Williams
Power Walkers, who are Commissioner John Olson, Jenny Olson, Mayor Lyman Amsden, and Dee Katus
Super Troopers, who are Kristi Elgin, John Elgin, Sherry Huckins and Coaly Huckins
Walkers for Life, who are Katie Ward, Pat Phillippi and Dr. George and Pam Ceremuga
These teams chose Aidan's medical fund because “during hard times we find it important for our community to come together for one another and we wanted to support this nice young individual through his time of need.”
