Freshman track star Zeason Schaffer competed in the prestigious Midland Round Table Top 10 Meet last week in Laurel. Individuals or relay teams who placed in the top 10 of all athletes in previous meets from across Southern Montana in classes AA, A, B, and C competed in the event, with Zeason as the only Freshman to qualify in the girls triple jump; all other competitors were Juniors and Seniors, and the majority were from far larger schools, such as Bozeman and Billings schools. Zeason won 7th in the event with a jump of 32' 6". Hailey Coey of Billings West won the event with a 34' 11" jump. The last Broadus competitor to compete at the Top 10 was Kiarah Coulter in 2019, where she placed 7th in the long jump.

The Broadus team competed in Miles City on Saturday, strutting their stuff in conditions Broadus Head Coach Jerry Coulter described as "cold and damp". With the mercury hovering in the 40s, the athletes tried to stay loose and limber in between events. "Our team did really well," Coulter commented on their performance. "Out of 500 plus competitors at the meet, we had a big group of kids place".

Top competitors for the boys included Kyle Minow, who placed 2nd in the javelin with a 134' 1" throw, Jaxon Bilbrey, who placed 3rd in the triple jump with a 36' 2" performance, Eli Heacock's 4th place in the 800 with a 2:13 time, and the 1600 meter relay team's 6th place performance, with a time of 4:10.

For the girls, Zeason Schaffer had a great day with 2nd place finishes in the high jump, the triple jump, and the long jump, while Abigail Martin placed 6th in the high jump. Several girls had personal records at the meet, including Rachel Rasmussen in the 3200, and Taylor Hansen in the javelin.

The district meet will take place in Baker this Thursday, with competitors looking to move on with their season. Other teams competing at the Class C level at the meet include Plevna, Ekalaka, Wibaux, Jordan, Terry, Custer/ Hysham, and Melstone.

On Friday, the high school track team will help the next generation of Broadus track stars to further their skills, as they administer the Elementary Track Meet, which begins at 8:30 at the Broadus track.
