Yellowstone Bank will officially enter Powder River County on Monday (September 20) after agreeing to acquire 1st Bank in Broadus from John and Eleanor Franklin. Yellowstone Bank, a long-established Montana bank based in Laurel was founded in 1907 by B. M. Harris and after five generations, is still owned and operated by the Harris family. Jay Harris, President of Yellowstone, is thrilled for the opportunity to support the Powder River community, “We are excited to join the good folks in Broadus and throughout Powder River County and grateful that we get to hold on to Phoebe, Amanda and Jessica and rest of the existing 1st Bank staff at our new Broadus location.”

This weekend (September 17-19) should be eventful as all of the existing 1st Bank banking systems will migrate on to the Yellowstone Bank platform. Going to the bigger platform will enable Yellowstone Bank to offer additional services over those of 1st Bank. This includes an expanded list of credit offerings and loan products, as well as a mobile banking app, ability to make mobile deposits, and electronic statements among other things.

Amanda Zimmer, current 1st Bank Operations Officer says that the conversion has been months in the making and employees from both 1st Bank and Yellowstone Bank have been working hard to limit the issues to existing 1st Bank customers during conversion: “The team at Yellowstone has been great to work with and there has been a constant stream of Yellowstone Bank employees visiting in the weeks leading up to the conversion. We are grateful for the time and energy they have spent getting to know us and our customers, we feel like we are in good hands.”

Scott Griffing, Operations Officer at Yellowstone Bank has been working hard with the Broadus team to ensure that things go as smoothly as possible when the bank opens on Monday, but understands that there are likely to be some minor issues. “There are always going to be some transition issues with a bank system conversion, so our goal is to make those as manageable as possible. For example, the customers’ new Yellowstone Bank debit cards can’t be activated and used until Monday the 20th, after the accounts have been converted to the new system. Because of this we’ve kept the old 1st Bank cards active through the weekend to be sure folks can buy gas and groceries.”

The newest Yellowstone Bank will begin welcoming customers and neighbors starting at 9:00 Monday morning. Yellowstone Bank is sending a team of support staff to help the Broadus team during the transition and to offer additional customer support. Brad Franklin, who will take over the role of market president is excited to get started, “We know transitions are a challenge, but we are thrilled to officially get to town and to start showing off the expanded Yellowstone Bank lending and deposit offerings, we are confident they will make a real positive difference with our new Broadus customers.”

Existing 1st Bank customers who have questions about the material they have received about the conversion or regarding their accounts are encouraged to call the same familiar number, 436-2611 at the Broadus bank.
