Week 4
“I get my steps playing basketball with Dillon,” explained Colton Biesheuvel.
“I get mine shed hunting,” added Paysen Kuhbacher.
“I get my steps in basketball practice and ball games,” added Ciara McDowell. The three make up most of the Happy Feet Two team sponsored by Powder River Teen 4-H.
Step for Charity team members are stepping everywhere!
"We step in place while brushing our teeth, warming in front of the wood stove, and reading books. Instead of sitting or standing, we step. We also play outside every day after school. At school, Coach Eaton gives us a good workout in PE class and we run around during recess. Over the weekend, we played tag, football, and rolled the hula hoop down the hill. At pep band, we walked up and down the stairs while watching the basketball games and waiting to play music,” explained The Labradors, who include Noah, Hanna, John and Leo Dudek.
“I’m training for Run to The Pub!” explained Barb Hammerquist, Step Sistars team member.
“We have been pacing while reading schoolbooks. It works good until you run in to something!” explained the Otter Trotters, who are members Trinity, Shiloh, Esther and Katya Stiegelmeier.
The well-deserving charities highlighted this week are Farm Rescue, Kids Food Bag Foundation and the Make a Wish Foundation.
Farm Rescue, is a charity chosen by Ward Walkers, a team sponsored by Powder River Vet Clinic and includes Katie, Shaye and Sam Ward and Rebekah Ulibarri. Farm Rescue’s mission is to help farmers and ranchers who have experienced a major illness, injury or natural disaster by providing the necessary equipment and volunteer workforce to plant, hay or harvest their crop. Livestock feeding assistance is also available. Farm Rescue helps farm and ranch families in North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Montana, Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas. Check out http://www.farmrescue.org for more information or to apply for assistance.
The Happy Hikers, chose Kids Food Bag Foundation, and includes Tammy and Ashley Van Tine, Tracy Thomas and Liz Riter. The Kids Food Bag Foundation is a fund set aside at the Broadus Elementary to provide healthy snacks for children.
“We support helping those who need a little extra food,” explained team captain, Tammy Van Tine.
The Happy Feet for You includes Zeason and Oliveah Schaffer, Lauryn Billing and Maddie Zimmer. They chose Make a Wish Foundation, explaining, “kids deserve to have their dreams come true!” A wish experience can be a game-changer for a child with a critical illness. This one belief guides the Make a Wish Foundation to grant life-changing wishes for children, who deal with so much, to exceed their expectations.
Businesses and individuals can still support an individual Steps for Charity team by donating money specifically to benefit the charity they’ve chosen. Contact the Extension Office at 436-2424 for more information.
