What is "patriotism" and how would you represent it artistically? That was the challenge for our local PRCDHS students. The entrants answered this question by creating a drawing or painting and an essay explaining how the artwork portrayed their idea of patriotism. The 2022 VFW Patriotic Art Contest was sponsored by our local VFW Auxiliary Post 1595. The contest was coordinated by Chair of Patriotic Art, Margaret Scoles and PRCDHS art teacher, Connie Barnhart.

Monetary prizes, provided by VFW Auxiliary Post 1595, were awarded to the 1st and 2nd places as well as two honorable mentions. Michaley's impressive artwork will go on to compete at the state level.

The first-place winner from each state competes for national awards totaling $21,000. The national first-place winner wins a $10,000 scholarship and a two-night trip (including airfare and two nights' lodging) to attend the VFW Auxiliary National Convention.
