High School Play Pronounced Success

The high school cast was without doubt a decided success last Saturday evening in its presentation of the farcial-comedy. “Betty’s Last Bet,” before a large audience at Shorty’s Hall, reflecting much credit upon the amateur actors and faculty under whose direction the play was produced.

The beauty and refinement of the play as a whole were the striking features, and all characters are to be commended for their interpretations of their respective parts.

Gladys Edwards played the part of Mrs. Darling remarkably well. The four daughters, Ruby Harrington as “Kitty”, the eldest; Fanny Bailey as “Peggy” the second; Elizabeth Garr as “Dolly” the third, and Mary Williams as “Betty” the youngest, deserve no less commendation for handling their parts with ease and composure. Sadie Porta, as Hannah, played the role of the old-maid cook excellently. Steve Holt as Jack Van Loon showed marked ability in winning the bet from “Betty”. Leslie Yarger as “Captain Wentworth”, and Clifford Fitch as “Edgar Darling” proved themselves excellent amateurs in the portrayal of their respective parts. All members of the case won merited praise from everyone present.

Annual Meeting Broadus Church

The annual meeting of the Broadus Community Congregational Church was held in the church basement on Thursday evening, May 15, following a covered dish supper served by ladies of the church. J.A. Williams, member of the board of trustees, served as moderator at the business meeting.

Reports of church activities were given by the following church officers: Mrs. Ethel James, clerk; Mrs. J.A. Williams, treasurer; Mrs. W.A. Helm, Sunday School Superintendent; Mrs. Richard Shamley, Community Club; Ashton Jones, music committee; Rev. L.C. Fuqua, Powder River Parish.

The church trustees were authorized to appoint an every-member canvass committee to solicit funds for the continuance of the church work during the coming year.

Election of officers for the coming year brought the following results: Trustee for three years, A.W. Heidel; Deacon for two years, F.W. Trautman; Deaconess for two years, Mrs. A.J. Bone; Treasurer, Mrs. J.A. Williams; Clerk, Mrs. Ethel James; Parish Council delegates, Mrs. W.H. Goodspeed, Mrs. C.M. Smith, Chester E. Onstad, O.G. Christianson; Music Committee, Mrs. A.W. Heidel, Mrs. Richard Janssen, Ashton Jones; Committee for Sunday school organization, Mrs. W.A. Helm; Chairman of Educational Committee, Chester E. Onstad.

Rossen Winner at Bucking Horse Sale

Former world champion bull rider, Ronnie Rossen of Broadus, was the top rider in the bareback division at the Bucking Horse Sale held in Miles City last weekend. Rossen received $500 for his efforts.

Rossen was also top rider in the first go-around of the bareback division.

Gib Lloyd, also of Broadus, took top money in the first go-around of the saddle bronc division.

FFA Report

At the State Convention, the Broadus FFA Chapter did well. The convention was held in Great Falls, at the Civic Center.

In Agronomy, Broadus placed 24th among 60 teams. The team was comprised of Jill Powell, 47th; Kim McDowell, 126th; Tim Hendrickson, 139th; and Casey Slovek, 146th, out of 240 participants.

In Livestock, the team took 24th out of 65 teams with Meghan Phillippi placing 37th; Adam Dice placing 33rd; James Clark taking 50th, and Mike Allen placing 188th, out of 260 competitors.

In Farm and Ranch Management, Broadus placed 19th out of 67 teams with Adam Dice taking 32nd; Tim Hendrickson taking 84th; Kim McDowell taking 98th; James Clark placing 110th; Eric Fredrickson placing 113th, and Mike Allen placing 146th among 240 competitors.

Broadus had three State Degree winners: Eric Fredrickson, Susan Brimmer, and Kim McDowell.
