With the end of volleyball season, retiring Coach Gordon Archer provided us with some information on the Lady Hawks' year, which included a number of team records.

As we reported earlier in the year, Zeason Schaffer broke the Hawks' all time single match kill record, which had previously been held by Sage Collins and set in 2016, with 27 kills. Schaffer broke that record not once but twice, with the first coming in the regular season against Jordan, and then recording 41 kills in a match against Circle at the District Tournament. Schaffer is now tied for 2nd all time in the state for the number of kills in a match.

Lauryn Billing set four separate records for the Lady Hawks, including the record for the number of assists in a match, during that same match against Circle in which Schaffer set her record. Lauryn's record of 47 eclipsed Taylore Drane's 2015 record of 46. Billing would go on to beat three more of Drane's records, with the season assist record of 779 assists (previously 741), career assists at 1809 (previously 1496), and career aces at 290 (previously 213).

Members of the team were also awarded for their work within the team with year end awards. Mia Mader had the highest pass percentage on the team, and also had the most digs on the team, with 287 over the course of the season.

Lauryn Billing had the best serve percentage, with 95.6% of her serves over the course of the season being in-bounds. Besides Billings record on assists, she also had the second most aces on the team, with 70.

Zeason Schaffer had the most aces on the team with 83, as well as the second most digs, with 223, on top of her kill record.

Oliveah Schaffer was the "Most Inspirational" Lady Hawk, and Zeason Schaffer won the Lady Hawk MVP Award.

Four members of the team made the All-Conference Team including Aspen Krantz, Mia Mader, Lauryn Billing, and Zeason Schaffer. Billing, Schaffer, and Mader also made the All State Team, joining other members of the conference including Lindsey Lawrence of Jordan, Grace Gackle of Circle, and Anika Lunde of Wibaux. (Note: Our print version indicated only Billing and Schaffer on the All State Team. Mader was added to the list after we went to print on Tuesday.)

Circle and North Country were the two teams to move on from the Eastern Divisional Tournament to State. Circle lost out in their first two matches, while North Country went on to place third. Bridger and Manhattan Christian faced off in the finals, with Manhattan Christian winning the 1st place trophy.

Reflecting on an exciting year of volleyball, Coach Archer said that folks had spoken to him several times this season about how he and the team had made volleyball incredibly fun to watch.

2022 is Archer's last year of coaching the team, and as he looked back on his years of coaching, he commented "What I most enjoyed was being able to work with some amazing young athletes, and amazing young ladies."
