Vern Ullrich

January 19, 2023

Vernon Paul Ullrich passed away at Powder River Manor in Broadus on the evening of December 23, 2022. We rejoice that he is free from all pain and suffering and has been made whole.

Vernon was the second child born to Karl H. and Ruby Griff Ullrich. Born on July 5, 1956, he joined an older brother Victor. He was baptized at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Broadus. His childhood was spent on the Ullrich Ranch playing with his brother and enjoying the beauty and adventure of the ranch. He had a love for hunting and fishing and spent many hours on the banks of the Powder River.

Vern went to Broadus Elementary School through 8th grade and then attended Powder River High School, graduating in 1975 from St. Labre in Ashland. He married Kay Lyn Haus at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Broadus, Montana. They lived and worked on the Ullrich Ranch for his dad. To this union, two sons were born: Adam Paul and Jason Lawrence.

They enjoyed their family time on the river ranch, raising sheep and cattle and fishing and hunting. Later Vern went to work as a logger which he really enjoyed and then worked for Joe and Lori Fortner. He was a hard worker and a very strong man. In July of 2005, he was in a terrible motorcycle wreck on Highway 59 South. His son, Adam, was on the back of the bike. Both were severely injured and life flighted to Casper Hospital. Vern never recovered. He lived out the rest of his days at the Powder River Manor in Broadus. Adam recovered but passed away a few years later.

Vern was preceded in death by his parents, Karl and Ruby Ullrich, his son, Adam, and special Aunt and Uncle Tony and Esther Gali. He is survived by his wife Kay of Anaconda, his son Jason of Broadus, his brother and sister-in-law Victor and Laura Lee Ullrich of Broadus, and Nieces Amy Minow (Tom) of Olive, Dr. Jennifer Mattingley of La Crosse, WI, and Nephew, Doug Ullrich (Laura) of Vail, AZ., and numerous members of the Haus family and his many friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Powder River Manor for their many years of care and love for Vern. We so appreciate you. We would also like to thank Tavy Turnbough and Phoebe Amsden (his legal guardian) for all they did for Vernon. Rest in Peace Vern.

Funeral services will be Thursday, January 19th at Stevenson's Funeral Home in Broadus at 1:00 p.m. A Luncheon will follow at the Montana Bar. Everyone is invited. Condolences may be sent to the family at http://www.stevensonandsons.com.
