March 16, 2023

By Jacy Collins

On March 7, 2023 the Junior High Academic Olympics team competed in Miles City at Miles Community College. The junior high competed against 18 other schools from our area. Academic Olympics is supported by the Southeast Montana Association of School Superintendents (SEMASS) and run by educators in Southeastern Montana.

The 13 Broadus students competed against a total of 106 students. The students take a 100 question written test, which seeds them as a team and then compete in oral rounds in the afternoon. Broadus B placed 4th and Broadus A placed 13th in the written rounds against a total of 21 teams.

Oral Rounds are 10 question rounds in which students are required to ring in and provide an answer. Both Broadus teams battled through the consolation rounds, but eventually lost out.

Individual Scoring:

7th Grade out of 50: Madelyn Kramme 3rd and silver medal; Bonita Kinzer 6th, Whitney Hartman 11th, Lucas Capp 12th, Brooke Escott 14th, Emelyn Harper 21st, Brock Gali 24th. 8th Grade out of 50: Eli Jurica 7th, Justin Aye 8th, Logan Capp and Kassie Hagedorn 10th, Laney Williams 26th and Collin Wetherell 28th.

These students gave up their lunch period for almost 6 weeks to attend this event. They did a great job of representing our school. It is great to see our students learn, grow and show off their education. Thank you to Eric Myers and Rebecca Boman for training the teams for competition.
