Fair memories at the museum

By Twila Talcott

The volunteers at the Powder River Historical Museum have been finding items to put in our front window for the Powder River County Fair display - lots of things you’ve probably seen before - as you prepare for what you are taking to the fair. But maybe folks would like to come into the Museum to look in a photo album we’ve compiled of great fair pictures through the years. Faces from 1941, some even older, and current ones too. Photos by Jessie Wellman, Marshall Sullivan and others. We hope everyone is planning to bring something to our Powder River County Fair. It is sure to be fun because the theme is Blue Skies, Family Ties and Cow Pies - something for everyone!

To the Editor,

Two days after I put out my Jon Tester sign, a nice fellow on a new red tractor stopped by and asked if I needed my lawn mowed. I said “You betcha!”

Now I’m not saying there is a connection, but if your lawn needs mowing you might try setting out a Jon Tester yard sign and see if that fellow on the red tractor stops by. He does a great job!

Letter to the editor,

School is just around the corner. Is your child ready? When shopping for backpacks, and supplies don’t forget to make sure your child is up to date on immunizations.

School vaccination requirements are important for maintaining high levels of immunization and reducing the occurrence of vaccine preventable diseases among school-aged children. In addition to protecting children who are immunized, vaccinations are necessary to protect children and staff who are unable to receive vaccination for medical reasons.

Kindergarten vaccination requirements include: 4 doses of DTaP/DTP; 3 doses of IPV; 2 doses of MMR; 2 doses of varicella. Recommended vaccinations for children entering 7th grade include: Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap), Meningococcal Conjugate (MCV4), & Human Papillomavirus (HPV)

Don’t forget about the 2018 MT TeenVax Challenge. This Challenge is an opportunity for parents/guardians of 11-17 year olds to enter their teen's name into a drawing for a $50 Amazon gift card if they have received at least 1 Tdap, 1 MCV4, and 1 HPV vaccine (at any time). Only one entry per teen. At least one gift card per county will be given away.

If your teen has not received these vaccines, consider catching them up on these teen vaccines.

The deadline to enter is October 31, 2018. Winners will be announced in November 2018.

Enjoy the remainder of the summer!
