  • Hawk Football Finishes Season With A Win

    Oct 31, 2024

As football season wound towards its finale, Hawk football faced one final test this season, against Poplar on Friday night. The Hawks hosted the game in Broadus, with conditions hovering in the low 40s with a light breeze for the evening game. Poplar won one game this season, via forfeit from Wibaux, but were otherwise in the same boat as Broadus, who had yet to win a game. That meant that at the end of the night, one team would have their first win by playing a game – and Broadus would u...

    Oct 24, 2024

In the first meeting of the season against Forsyth, the Lady Hawk volleyball squad had a challenging time against their Rosebud County rivals, with the teams trading blows and the match going to five sets and Broadus coming back to win in the fifth set by the skin of their teeth. The second time around, last Thursday in Forsyth, the Lady Hawks were much more focused, according to Head Volleyball Coach Monica Smith. That increase in focus helped lock in the team's defense and offense, and helped...

Despite steady high winds in the 30 mph range during the race, 4 out of 5 Broadus XC runners had personal records for the season. Coach Ashley Emmons told us that she emphasized "drafting" to the team to take advantage of the wind. Drafting, often seen in car or bicycle racing, is an aerodynamic technique used by a racer following another, cutting air resistance and drag. In practice, the lead runner takes up the brunt of the wind, with the trailing racer running in the lead's slipstream,...
