Landen Capp, recently graduated senior from Broadus, played in the Cleverly 8-man football All-Star game on Saturday. The annual All-Star game, now in its 40th year, features some of the top senior athletes off the 8-man gridiron from across the Treasure State, and is held in Butte. The state qualifying members of the Broadus Hawk track team departed for state last week, making the drive to Great Falls on Thursday. The team was greeted with cold and windy weather on Friday for the first day of the meet – not too big of a surprise considering Great Falls regularly makes the list of "Top Windiest Cities In The US". For the first time in school history, a sports team has brought home to Broadus a state title. The accomplishment, which for many years seemed impossible. The Broadus girls golf team accomplished that feat no more than a week ago, at the state tournament in Hamilton. Not to be outshadowed by the girls, the Broadus boys made history of their own, accomplishing a third place team trophy. Conditions in Laurel were sunny and breezy with temps in the 60s last Thursday for the Southern C Divisional Track Meet – conditions just perfect for a meet, according to Head Track Coach Faith Dyrud. Majors baseball players, aged 11-12 and some 10 year olds who want more instruction on playing baseball, meet at 4:00 PM at the same field. 10 year olds may play both leagues. The Broadus Track team – both boys and girls, achieved a number of placing ribbons at the 4C District Meet last week in Baker, and will send a large contingent of the team on to the Southern Divisional, this Thursday in Laurel. Hawk track stars had a successful week of meets, beginning with a journey to the center of the nation on Tuesday the 23rd. The Belle Fourche meet featured teams from around the Northern Black Hills and Wyoming, along with a smattering of teams from the Western SD Plains, along with Broadus. The Broadus golf team has been incredibly busy, golfing in four tournaments over the course of a week as their short spring season nears its end. Despite the jam-packed schedule, the team continues to place at the top of the pile, winning several meets. Broadus competed in the Fairview Tournament in Sidney on Tuesday, April 23rd. Broadus golfers competed in two matches last week, while having their own home competition postponed due to cold weather and high winds. At Colstrip the golfers competed on a course featuring a number of water hazards, in generally good conditions that started out breezy but turned into “shorts and tee shirt” weather as the day progressed. This week the Broadus high school team plans on meets at Belle Fourche on Tuesday, Laurel on Saturday, and then the Top 10 next week, for those who qualify. Broadus High Track competed in two meets over the last week, including one at Miles City, and another in Baker. Broadus HS golfers competed at the Absarokee/Park City Invite on Tuesday, April 2nd, in Columbus. The course is near the Yellowstone River and features a tight setup with a number of trees, according to Coach Chad Gatlin. Golfers for Broadus included Emma Isaacs, who won 1st place overall at the meet among the girls with an 86, and Cooper Zimmer, who tied for 5th in the boys with an 82. The Broadus golf team showed they are still the SE Montana team to beat last Friday, as both boys and girls team won at a home meet in Broadus. The stormy weather last week caused the rescheduling of the Miles City Track Meet to April 9th. The meet last week would've been the Broadus High School Track team's first test of the year.
