Broadus Golfers Win In First Tourney Of 2024

Grayson Arithson hits a shot onto the green at the High School Golf Tourney at Rolling Hills Golf Course last week.

The Broadus golf team showed they are still the SE Montana team to beat last Friday, as both boys and girls team won at a home meet in Broadus. The weather was cool but comfortable for the competition, which featured golfers from Park City, Baker, Wibaux, Fairview, Wesby/Grenora, and Savage.

Returning to coach the team this season is Chad Gatlin, with Hattie Arithson and Rick Gatlin serving as assistant coaches.

A total of 17 golfers are on the team this season, including 3 new golfers, according to Gatlin.

The Broadus girls return 4 out of 5 of the girls who won second place at State last season, when they placed second behind Manhattan Christian by a single stroke. Emma Isaacs, Graci Barbero, Aspen Krantz, and Shyla Madsen return from that state team last season.

The Broadus boys state level team from last year returns to the course. That team last season placed 8th at state, and consisted of Grayson Arithson, Cooper Zimmer, Jayce Sch-roeder, and Jeff Cahoon.

When we spoke to Chad and the team on Monday, four golfers indicated they had personal best scores at the Friday meet.

Female individual scores were as follows: Emma Isaacs, 1st, 86. Graci Barbero, 2nd, 87. Aspen Krantz, 4th, 99. Shyla Madsen, tied for 7th, 108. Laney Williams, 9th, 110. Kensi Emmons, 12th, 129.

Boys individual scores were as follows: Cooper Zimmer, 1st, 83. Grayson Arithson, 2nd, 85. Jayce Schroeder, 3rd, 91. Jeff Cahoon, 4th, 100. Kanin Krantz, 18th, 159.

On Tuesday, the team traveled to Columbus, with the bus leaving at 6 am. The next competition will be on Tuesday, April 9th, in Miles City.

Laney Wilson competes in high school golf, on a chilly day last week in Broadus.

Aspen Krantz chips a shot towards the pin.
