The Powder River County Sheriff's Department swore in a new deputy last Thursday, as Adam Gronning joined the force.

Gronning may not be a familiar name to some in the community, but for others he's a longtime friend. Adam comes to Broadus from Wisconsin, but spent many of his childhood summers in and around Broadus, as he is the son of RaeVonne Rogge of Broadus.

After graduating high school in Wisconsin, Adam worked a variety of jobs in Wisconsin, but also returned to Powder River Country to work five seasons guiding hunters for Powder River Outfitters.

Gronning would go on to work for the Washburn County Highway Department in Wisconsin, though he would spend much of his vacation time back in Southeast Montana, visiting family, hunting, and enjoying life. During his time working for the Highway Department, Adam worked his way up to Operations Manager, which meant he was in charge of around 35 workers. This management and "people" experience should serve him well in his new job in law enforcement.

During an interview last week, Adam said that he's always wanted to work in law enforcement, and he's always loved Southeastern Montana. So when the opportunity arose to come to Powder River County and work as a police officer, he jumped at the chance.

"I love the area, and enjoy the small ranching community lifestyle," Gronning commented. "I'm looking forward to seeing folks I've known from years past, and meeting new people in the community."

Adam will be working alongside Undersheriff Matt Hagedorn and Deputy Brenden Stevenson as he trains into his position. Sheriff Allen Drane, Jr. said Gronning will attend the Montana Law Enforcement Academy in the first available class, which at this time looks to be after the first of the year.
