August 15, 2019

"Stirrup Some Fun at the Powder River County Fair" was the theme of this year's fair. It was the Tongue River Crossroads 4-H club who decorated the most artistic, creative and informative booth to match the theme. The club receives an award sponsored by the Powder River County Fair. Representing the club (from left to right) are Deanna Twedt, Casey Knobloch, Zachary Jones and Corey Knobloch.

Editor's note: More photos of 4-H winners may be found in this week's online photo album. We ran out of room!

"I was impressed with the quality of the work and how much the kids have learned and grown in their projects over this last year," explained Cody Morris, 4-H Leathercraft Judge at this year's Powder River County Fair. The fair began for many 4-H youth on Tuesday with one-on-one interviews with a judge. The interview allowed the 4-Her to talk about everything they've learned while making entries for fair. The interview is as important as the items entered and helps the judge determine if it's worthy of a grand champion ribbon.

All 4-Hers worked hard in their projects and the display provided the evidence. Competition was stiff in the woodworking project as Zach Jones' upscale, cabin-like dog house with a front porch and Cade Andrews striped blue and cedar coffee vied for top honors. Other showy items included Corey Knobloch's weight bench in the welding project and Lauryn Billing's home environment project that included a hand-crafted headboard and bed frame with built in drawers and chest of drawers made from old barnwood. From photography to quilting to cake decorating, food preservation and leatherwork, there was a lot to see and admire.
