Round Robin Showmen Compete for Top Honors

The best of the best showmen at the Fair – Round Robin winners Mariah Higgins, Reserve Grand Champion, Senior; Callie Williams, Grand Champion Senior Showman; Zachary Jones, Grand Champion Junior and Jayce Schroeder, Reserve Grand Champion Showman.

The Round Robin Showmanship Contest is one of the final events at the Powder River County Fair and one of the most competitive. Showman qualify within the showmanship classes in Horse, Beef, Sheep and Swine; usually the first and second top showman in Senior and Junior divisions, however, because some win with more than one specie, the third or fourth place winners advance to the final contest.

Contestants vying for the top award included Junior division exhibitors Ava Landa, Zachary Jones, Rheanna and Jayce Schroeder, Abi Krantz, Jaxon and Shaylee Bilbrey and Oliveah Schaffer. Senior division contestants included Garrett Cunningham, Beau Kuhbacher, Karena Appleman, Lea Aye, Casey Knobloch, Mariah Higgins and Callie Williams.

The Grand Champion Round Robin Senior was Callie Williams. She received a jacket sponsored by Powder River Farm Bureau and a buckle donated by Tim & Gaylene Fortner. Reserve Grand Champion honors went to Mariah Higgins, who received a set of clippers sponsored by Broadus Feed & Supply – Anipro.

Best Beginning Showman – Drew Gaskill presents Zachary Jones with the Best Beginning Showman Buckle sponsored by his family, Bub, Carlene, Marni, Mesa and Drew Gaskill in memory of Amanda Gaskill.

In the Junior Division, Zachary Jones won the Grand Champion honors, receiving a jacket sponsored by the Powder River Farm Bureau and a buckle sponsored by Chase, Shanna, Scarlett & Porter Talcott. Reserve honors in the junior division went to Jayce Schroeder, who received clippers sponsored by Jason & Hattie Arithson.

The coveted Amanda Gaskill Memorial buckle, sponsored by Bub, Carlene, Drew, Marni, Mesa and Garrett Gaskill is awarded to the first time Round Robin contestant who scores the highest.

"The award has created great incentive especially among the first year showmen," noted Extension Agent Mary Rumph. "The award exemplifies Amanda," continued Rumph. "She loved her animals, she was a class act and gave everything she had while exhibiting at the Fair."

The honor and buckle this year went to a very deserving young man, Zachary Jones.
