PRQHBA Horse Sale draws 351 potential buyers

The Powder River Quarter Horse Breeders Association would like to thank our Consignors and Buyer for helping us make another great sale. It was a hot one, but it didn’t stop everyone from having a good time. We had 78 head of horses go through the sale ring. The average on 17 ride horses was $6980 with the top five averaging $9650 and the high selling horse was $13000. Congratulations to Lyle Mitchell for having the high selling Saddle Horse. Southern Springs Stable had the high-selling ride mare at $6750. There were five ride horses no-saled. The average on ten yearlings was $1450 with the top three at $2050. Congratulations goes to Swenson Martin Horse & Cattle Co. for the high selling yearling gelding for $2500. Davis Quarter Horses had the high selling yearling mare for $2400. In the weanling part of our sale we sold 46 weanlings averaging $1258 with the top ten average of $2050. The high selling weanling stallion sold for $2600 and was consigned by Davis Quarter Horses. The high selling weanling filly sold for $2400 and was consigned by Les McGill. There were five weanlings no-saled. The clerks handed out 158 buyers’ numbers at the sale, plus 182 people on the internet and 11 phone bidders.

Our Auctioneer was Lynn Weishaar, Pedigree expert John E Johnson, Sale ring men were Matt Wznick, Jeff Long, Dan Piroutek, and Dennis Jenkins. Sale clerks, Sharon Freed and Brandy Escott. Podium clerk was Megan Smith. Ward Gatlin was our brand inspector and Stacie with Montana Mobile Vet was our attending veterinarian. This year our Sale Catalog cover was designed by Nanette Choquer and the Cover Photo was taken by Shelly Mitchell. The catalog was printed by Tri-State Livestock News. Thank you all for helping PRQHBA make our catalog look fantastic.

On Friday things kicked off with our 2-year-old futurity. There were 10 entries and the competition was exciting. The winner of the Two-Year-Old al-around competition was Gordon Radke. The futurity saddle was sponsored by Church Steeple Quarter Horses (Rod & Sandy Lee) of Miles City, MT. On Saturday Powder River Roundup had the AQHA Versatility Ranch Horse Show. There were 19 horses shown in 27 classes. The announcer was Les Thompson of Broadus, AQHA Judge, Vicki Radtke from Nebraska, ring steward Megan Smith from Broadus, and show secretary Karen Stevenson from SD, and show manager Dean Johnson from Mud Butte, SD.

I would like to thank our sponsors for the AQHA Show because without them we would not be able to host this event. Charlie & Shirley Russell of Broadus sponsored all the cattle for the cattle event. The yearling futurity was held on Sunday morning before the horse sale preview. Our judge this year was Dean Johnson from Mud Butte, SD. Announcer John E Johnson, ring steward Megan Smith. There were 4 horses shown in the Open Filly class. First place went to Page Twitchell showing PEPETOE BABY BOON, second to Lance Bateman showing LITTLE SAFARI KITTY, third to Molly Losing showing HOLIDAY BROWN SUGAR, and fourth to Glen Smith Jr. showing TDM MISS BUSSY DUALIN. In the Open Colt class first place goes to Peggy McAmis showing PEPPYS PLAYBOY LEO, second to Lance Bateman showing CC A SURE HANDLEBAR, third to Lance Bateman showing CC MATT DILLON, and fourth to Chance Beley shoeing TRUE FRENCH BEE. We had two exhibitors in the Youth Futurity. Page Twitchell was first in the Youth Filly class showing PEPETOE BABY BOON. Page won the Champion Filly buckle and the Champion Showman buckle. Chance Beley was first in the Youth Colt class showing TRUE FRENCH BEE. Chance won the Champion Colt buckle, the Res. Champion Showman buckle and the Bob Folsom Memorial buckle. Both youth exhibitors will also receive a check.
