Did you know?

If you dug a hole straight through the earth from Broadus, you would pop up in the Indian Ocean, approximately 315 miles northeast of the Desolation Islands. These islands are a French territory in the Southern Indian Ocean, located approximately 2,100 miles southeast of Madagascar. The islands are uninhabited other than a French research station of around 45 to 100 people, depending on the season. The largest island, Grande Terre, covers approximately 2,577 square miles. Wildlife on the tundra and rock covered island includes ocean going seabirds, seals, and penguins. In the 1950s and 60s, a French geologist introduced trout to the island; wild populations of brook and brown trout remain today.
