Amanda Gaskill Memorial Basketball Tournament will take place April 17th and 18th

By Marni Gaskill

After having to cancel last year, the Amanda Gaskill Memorial Basketball Tournament is set for April 17th and 18th and we couldn’t be more excited! The brackets are full with 8 men’s teams and 4 women’s, including 7 local teams signed up. An approximate total of 90 players will hit the Broadus High School court for a weekend full of basketball! The public is invited to attend both days and enjoy watching some games! The Broadus Cancer Fund will be serving concessions and although entrance is free to the games, we will be accepting donations during the tournament. All donations are tax deductible, as the Amanda Gaskill Memorial is a 501(c)3.

Tournament games will be played all day Saturday, starting at 8 am. A Three-Point contest open to the public will start at 4 pm Saturday and everyone is welcome to participate! All participants must be entered by 4 pm on the 17th at the registration table at the gym. The preliminary rounds are 10 shots for $20, with the top 6 advancing to the semifinals immediately after the preliminaries. The Three-Point Championship will follow using the same rules, with the top 2 scorers placing. The winner takes home a YETI cooler and second place receives a YETI Rambler cup, both donated by Jess Lockwood. Tournament play will resume Sunday the 18th starting at 9 am.

This community is second to none when it comes to lending a helping hand, especially during difficult times. Hosting this tournament and providing two $1,000 scholarships to PRCDHS seniors is our way of giving back to those that helped us in many ways when Amanda passed away. We’re grateful for the participants, community and all who help make this possible to honor her memory.
