What A Fair!!!

By PR Extension Office

Despite fire, heat and power outages, the Powder River County Fair endured last week. Many challenges arose and capable community leaders met them head on keeping the Fair flowing with just a few hitches, according to MSU Powder River Extension agents Mary Rumph and Julie Riley.

"Everyone was supportive, accommodating and understanding," said Rumph. "It exemplified what a 'community' Fair is. A warm thank you to all!"

"It was an impressive show of problem solvers we had working behind the scenes," said Rumph. "It was time for the Opening Ceremonies at 6 pm on Tuesday and we had a live mic. The timing was perfect to recognize Bub and Carlene Gaskill, the 2021 Fair Book Dedicatees."

The evening continued with the trick rider and rough stock rodeo. The next day, non-livestock 4-H projects were judged in the dimly lit Northend of the Fair Barn and in the fully powered Community Center. By early afternoon, the Fairbarn was fully powered by a generator. Flexibility was necessary due to 4-H families dealing with livestock without water at home, detours, and the possibility of evacuations.

All the livestock entries made it to town and the Schroeder family made it to the winner's circle multiple times.
