Broadus Welcomes Four New Teachers - Clayton Scott

Four teachers have taken on new roles with Broadus Schools this fall, including a JH/HS Math Teacher, a 4th Grade Teacher, a Shop Teacher, and a Title 1/8th Grade English Teacher. Filling those roles are a combination of experienced teachers and others just beginning their education careers. We sat down with the teachers to get to know them.

Clayton Scott

Clayton Scott takes over Shop Teacher duties from Marshall Williams, who retired last spring. Scott is a 2017 Campbell County High School Grad from Gillette, going on to attain an Agricultural Education degree from South Dakota State University in Brookings. Scott will also take over FFA Advisor duties – he has years of experience in the program, having started in FFA in his freshman year of high school.

Clayton told us that he took the teaching position in Broadus for several reasons. The proximity to home, familiarity with the region due to his family in Weston, Wyoming, and a pamphlet published by the school district for interested teachers which demonstrated the entire package Broadus has to offer, including activities in the community were all factors. The pamphlet, according to Scott, showed the teacher's role in the community and pushed him towards looking further into the job.

In his free time, Clayton says he enjoys traveling and adventures; his travels with FFA have already taken him into Western Montana, and he looks forward to discovering more of the area in the future.

Clayton will be teaching a variety of shop classes in Broadus, including the Ag 1 through 4 classes, which cover everything from livestock to range management and more, Welding 1 and 2 (which are dual-credit classes through Miles Community College for college credit), beginning with oxy-acetylene welding and moving on to arc welding and MIG/TIG welding, Mechanics 1 and 2, which begin with a small engine program where students rebuild a Briggs and Stratton engine, and moves on to automotive technology, and a JH Shop class, which concentrates more on the wood and construction side of technology.

Clayton spent some time this spring and summer learning the FFA Advisor ropes from Marshall Williams; Clayton told us that Marshall helped set him up for success in the new role. Clayton told us he is happy to be here and he was encouraged by meeting folks at the FFA booth at the fair.

He told us: "Broadus is a great community, and I'm glad to be a part of it."
