Shauna Schaffer, Title 1 and 8th grade English Teacher, is shown above in her classroom.

Four teachers have taken on new roles with Broadus Schools this fall, including a JH/HS Math Teacher, a 4th Grade Teacher, a Shop Teacher, and a Title 1/8th Grade English Teacher. Filling those roles are a combination of experienced teachers and others just beginning their education careers. We sat down with the teachers to get to know them.

Shauna Schaffer

Shauna Schaffer is the new Title 1 and 8th grade English Teacher in Broadus, taking over the duties of Patty Williams, who retired last spring. Schaffer grew up outside of Killdeer, ND, and attained her teaching degree from the University of Wyoming in Laramie, where she met her husband, Jason Schaffer of Broadus. The couple has two boys, Coy and Ardie, and enjoy rodeoing and spending time with family in their off time.

Shauna taught at Little Powder School in Wyoming for five years, before the opportunity arose to work closer to home.

Schaffer told us: “I’ve really formed a bond with the Broadus community, and asked myself how I could best help out, and feel that bringing my knowledge to help out the students will be a way to give back to the community.”

Schaffer said during an interview last Friday.

Shauna will facilitate the Title 1 program, which is a federal program that provides tutoring and support for students who are struggling academically.

“I see my role as working as a bridge to keep those students from falling into a hole,” she described the position.

Shauna will also take on the 8th grade English Teacher role, where she tells us her students will work on a variety of tasks such as novels, grammar, poetry, and more.

Schaffer is also currently working on a graduate degree in Education from MSU-Billings.
