Lady Hawk Volleyball Team Wins At Home

The Lady Hawk Varsity Volleyball squad hosted Terry last Friday, with Broadus Head Coach Gordon Archer commenting: "The girls came out and dominated from the beginning against Terry. They just didn't seem to have an answer for us, and we did well in every aspect of the match."

The Lady Hawks won handily in three straight sets, 25-9, 25-10, and 25-9.

On Saturday, Broadus made the trip to Circle. The Lady Wildcats were thus far undefeated this season, and thought they could handle Broadus easily, perhaps having seen their tournament losses to Jordan. That easy win was not to be the case on Saturday, though Broadus started slow in the first set, spotting Circle five points before closing the gap. Circle was able to squeak out a win in the first set, 22-25, and seemed to be poised for an easy win after the second set with a 25-4 victory.

"I'd like to say I had a motivational speech to amp the girls up, but I think they just dug in and did what they needed to do," Archer spoke about the third set, which Broadus won 25-21.

The Lady Hawks' burst of momentum seemed to deflate Circle in the fourth set, with Broadus winning handily 25-9 and forcing a fifth and final set to 15.

"It came down to the end, and either team could've won," Archer commented. Ultimately, the home team would win the fifth set 15-13 to take the match.

The match at Circle was by all accounts one of the most exciting and fun atmospheres in recent memory, with fans for both sides cheering loudly and encouraging their teams, and one young player commenting that it was the most fun she's ever had at a match.

Lauryn Billing had an impressive weekend of serving, going 30 for 30 against Terry and 21 for 21 against Circle, adding six aces in those games. She also had 33 assists on the weekend. Zeason Schaffer had 21 kills on the weekend, as well as 3 blocks against Circle.

Broadus will host Ekalaka for the Homecoming match, this Thursday. The Lady Bulldogs are biting at the Lady Hawks' heals in the conference record, with Broadus at 4-2 and Ekalaka at 3-1; the match looks to be very competitive. Action begins with the JH B team at 3:30, with JH A and JV matches to follow. The varsity is scheduled for 7 pm, with a bonfire to follow despite the tinderbox conditions.
