Join us in raising awareness for mental health by walking at the “Still I Walk” event set for Saturday, October 9th, beginning on the Courthouse Square, at 10:00 a.m. Walkers set their own distance to walk: the distance can range from one block to 6.6 miles, which is the route to the golf course and back.

“Powder River Trails is organizing the event to promote the freshly mown trail to the golf course, to raise awareness about mental health and to promote physical activity,” according to Julie Riley, MSU Extension Agent.

“It’s a challenging time right now for many people,” explained Mary Rumph, MSU Extension Agent, we are living through a world-wide pandemic and our agricultural community is facing unprecedented drought and the financial hardships of finding and paying for feed for our livestock.” It’s critical that as an individual or as a community we know WHEN and WHERE to ask for help.

A great resource for dealing with an overwhelming amount of stress is the Montana Ag Producers Stress Resource Clearinghouse which is just a click away on the Montana State University Extension Website, said Rumph. https://msuextension.org/wellness/stress-management/ mt_farm_stress_clearing_house/index.html

Asking for help takes courage yet finding a mental health provider can be as simple as looking at a directory found at Montana Mental Health Provider Directory [bozemanhelpcenter. org]. This database allows you to narrow down your search by the age group a provider cares for, types of therapy, insurance, telehealth availability and whether or not providers are accepting new clients, etc.

Businesses or individuals can sponsor a participant. Participants should register by September 30th, to have a t-shirt for the “Still I Walk” event at http://www.powderrivertrails.com or by calling the Extension Office at 436-2424. Chili and refreshments will be provided at the conclusion of the walk.
