Dance Floor Lumber on the Way to Broadus

A week ago Jerome Gould, John Lemson and Virgil Dixon were supposed to have started from the lumber mill near Stacey with three wagons heavily loaded with dance flooring and dimension lumber which will be used in converting Shorty’s Garage into a public auditorium. The men had not yet arrived Wednesday night, the delay causing them to lay over at some place along the route. There is no doubt locally that the lumber will be received in plenty of time to carry out plans for the big bazaar, show and dance, December 10, given under auspices of the Ladies’ Aid society.

New Year’s Eve Ball is Planned

The Broadus Volunteer Fire Department will again sponsor a New Year’s Eve Ball and Lloyd Rue was named as chairman of the committee to make arrangements for the festive party. This action was taken at the monthly meeting of the fire department on Wednesday evening, November 13.

The department has purchased a fire siren from the town of Wellman, Iowa, and this piece of equipment was delivered here last week by Fay Rowe, brother of the local banker. The siren is one formerly used by the town of Wellman and was purchased for $50.

The department will erect the siren on a 30 ft. tower just south of the fire hall. The siren is operated by a 3 horse power electric motor and will be used for sounding fire alarms. It will replace the bell now used for that purpose.

The department voted to ask the state highway department to pay for the repairs to the fire truck necessitated by the fighting of the fire at the Little Powder River Bridge last summer. The club will also ask the state highway department to replace 500 feet of hose damaged at that time.

Club Presents Comedy Dec. 7

The Woman Next Door is the title of the three act play that the Community Club will present at the High School Auditorium on December 7th.

The story concerns two good friends and neighbors, widows with grown families, who, after years of almost sisterly devotion to one another, suddenly become sworn enemies and set out to “get even” with each other in the most amazing and laughable ways. To complicate matters, one widow’s son wants to marry the other widow’s daughter. This brings about some very amusing and some very serious ones.

The play is directed by Mrs. A.O. Pemberton, Jr., assisted by Mrs. D.D. MacBride, and the cast includes, Mrs. C.A. Rowe, Lela Barbero, Mary Preston, Lawrence Powell, Mrs. R. Shamley, Mrs. P.P. Halleck, Neal McCurdy, Bettyan Halleck, Andy Hingle and Step Holt.

First Annual “Light of Love” Project Planned

By Darlene Wash

For those of us who have lost loved ones of our own or perhaps a friend, we feel the loss every day, but never so much as at Christmas time.

The “Light of Love “project is a means of sharing the memory of our loved ones in a special way during the holiday season. A Christmas tree will be set up outside at the Powder River Manor. Donations in memory of our loved ones will purchase a colored light to be placed on the tree, as well as a laminated ornament stating who the light is in memory of.

The money from this annual project will be set aside specifically to be used for cleaning, upkeep and possibly some utilities at the chapel that will be moved in by the Manor next spring.

We encourage you to join us in celebrating, in this special way, the memories of those we have loved and lost.
