With Wolf Mountain peaking through the clouds in the background, Broadus golfer Jeff Cahoon lines up for a shot at the high school golf tournament on Monday, while Rolling Hills Golf Course mainstay "Tig" the dog is on hand to provide assistance for anyone in need of a canine to pet.

On Tuesday, April 5th, the Broadus Varsity golf season got underway in Miles City. Despite brutal winds gusting to a high of 62 mph at the Miles City Airport and an average wind speed of 31.1 mph during the day of competition, Broadus golfers braved the conditions to hit the links.

The Miles City tournament featured Class C teams from Park City, Wibaux, and Broadus. The Hawk golfers were able to win first in both boys and girls, with the girls top three golfing a 296 to win. The Park City girls golfed a 349 and Wibaux girls a 372. For the boys, Broadus golfed a 305 to win, against Park City's 356 and Wibaux's 405.

Top golfers for Broadus included Emma Isaacs, who also won individually by golfing a 91, Lauryn Billing, who placed third with a 101, and Lea Aye, who shot a 104. Other scores included Graci Barbero with a 107, Aspen Krantz with a 114, Kendal Stanley with a 122, Ciara McDowell with a 128, and Shyla Madsen and Becca Aye, who each golfed scores of 143.

For the boys, top honors went to Wyatt Gee, who placed first individually with a 95, and Cooper Zimmer, who golfed a 99 to place second. Colton Biesheuvel then golfed a 111 to complete the team score. Jace Schroeder a 114, Grayson Arithson a 155, and Jeff Cahoon, golfing JV, scored a 99.

Last Saturday at Colstrip, the team braved snow, rain, and cold during the first half of the day while shooting at what Gatlin described as "one of the tougher courses they'll play on this season."

Despite the difficult course and conditions, Broadus golfers thrived at Colstrip.

The girls team golfed a 413 to win the team event, beating second place Shepherd by 18 shots, and third place Huntley by 104 shots.

Emma Isaacs placed second overall in the girls tournament, golfing a 44 on the front nine and a 48 on the back nine for a 92. Emma actually tied with Abby Baer of Colstrip for the tournament lead, and a scorecard playoff put Baer into the lead.

Lea Aye golfed a 56 on the front nine and a 47 on the back nine for a 103, placing sixth in the tournament. Graci Barbero golfed a 57 and a 50 for a 107, placing seventh. Aspen Krantz golfed a 56 and 55 for a 111, placing eighth, and Lauryn Billings shot a 59 and 57 for a 116.

Cooper Zimmer led the pack for the boys, golfing a 44 on the front nine holes and a 46 on the back nine for a total of 90. Wyatt Gee golfed a 56 and 51 for a 107 total. Solomon Bradley shot a 53 and 57 for a 110. Jayce Schroeder golfed a 67 and a 58 for a 125, and Jeff Cahoon shot an 83 and a 66 for a 149.

Cooper placed fourth in the tournament, with Cade Sorlie of Huntley winning the boys tourney with an 83. The Broadus boys placed second in the tournament as a team, golfing a 432 total, while Huntley won with a 369.

The schedule worked well for the golf team this week, with the Broadus tournament taking place Monday before the storm rolled in, and no planned tournaments this week while the storm sweeps through the area. Next week the Richey/Lambert will take place in Sidney on Tuesday, and a Forsyth meet is scheduled for Friday followed by another home meet in Broadus on Saturday.

At the home meet on Monday Broadus teams dominated, winning first in both boys and girls team scores, and individually.

Graci Barbero's pink ball is evident in the sky after a solid drive at the golf tournament on Monday.

Cooper Zimmer led the boys hitting 94, with Wyatt Gee also scoring 94. Colton Biesheuvel hit a 96, Solomon Bradley a 112, and Jace Schroeder a 120. The top three boys scored a 284, winning the team title over second place Park City, who scored a 321. Plenty Coups had a 328, Fairview a 338, and Wibaux and Savage both scored a 341. Broadus JV scores included Kail Irish with a 136 and Grayson Arithson with a 144.

For the girls, Emma Isaacs led the pack golfing an 87 for first place individually. Lea Aye and Lauryn Billing both shot 100, Graci Barbero a 105 and Aspen Krantz a 114. The top three girls scored a 287 to win against second place Fairview with a 319, Park City with a 335, and Wibaux with a 419.
