Local Athletes Compete In College NFR

Two former Broadus rodeo athletes, Garrett Cunningham and Tate Harmon, as well as Bo Vocu of Ashland competed at the College National Finals Rodeo, held last week in Casper, Wyoming.

All three of the young athletes are saddle bronc riders, having previously qualified for the National Finals by placing in their respective regions.

Cunningham attends school at MSU-Northern in Havre as a Freshman. Garrett was the Big Sky Region Champion Saddle Bronc rider, going into the National Finals Rodeo. He scored 940 total points in the region.

Tate Harmon attends New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, where he studies Animal Science. Harmon made it into the National Finals by placing third in the Grand Canyon Region with 631 total points.

Bo Vocu also attends school at New Mexico State University, where he is majoring in Small Business Management and Entrepreneurship. Vocu made the National Finals with 616 total points in the Grand Canyon Regionals.

Harmon and Vocu each made one ride in Casper, with Harmon scoring 61.0 points to place 31st out of 39 finals competitors, and Vocu scoring 66.5 to place 26th.

Garrett Cunningham scored 74.5 and 75.5 on his first two rides and no scored on his third ride, but still made the short go, where he scored an 80, one of only seven riders to make time in the short go. Cunningham finished out with 230.0 points, placing 7th overall in the nation.

Shea Founier of McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana won the Saddle Bronc, with a 315 point total score.

Maclain Cathey of Broadus had 691.5 points in the all-around in regional standings, competing in the tie down roping, team roping, and steer wrestling, placing 10th in the region but did not make it to the National Finals. Cathey competes for Montana State University, Bozeman.
