New Deputy On Duty At Sheriff's Department

Tomasa Pacheco, pictured above, is the new deputy at the Powder River County Sheriff's Department.

A new deputy has donned the badge at the Powder River County Sheriff's Department. Tomasa Pacheco comes to the department after 31 years in the nursing field, having first worked in Broadus as a traveling Certified Nurses Aide in 1995. During that period, Tomasa traveled all around the state, and has recently worked at the Manor in her CNA role, where she reportedly did an amazing job with the residents.

Pacheco is originally from Amherst, Texas, a small town near the Texas Panhandle located northwest of Lubbock. Pacheco speaks fluent Spanish, which she has already put to use as a deputy here in Broadus during her training with the department's other deputies.

Tomasa has a large family in Eastern Montana, and when not engaged in her day job she enjoys exercising, particularly running, as well as cooking and being around her family.

When asked about her transition from the healthcare field to law enforcement, Tomasa replied: "I enjoy being around people, and want the chance to protect and serve. I've heard such good things about Thumper (Sheriff Drane) and the dispatch crew, and am excited to start and be a part of this community".

Pacheco is currently slated to attend the Montana Law Enforcement Academy in April of 2023.
