Lady Hawks Win Two More Volleyball Matches

The Lady Hawk Volleyball team went into their second weekend of volleyball matches coming off a first place win at the Fairview Tournament, and looked to carry that momentum onward as they traveled to Circle on Friday and Terry on Saturday.

Conditions at the Circle gym were described as "warm" for the match on Friday, as has been the case with many events so far this school year, with temps approaching record highs and a lack of AC in small Eastern Montana gyms.

"We came out in the first set and played good volleyball, but Circle seemed to have an answer for everything we did," Coach Gordon Archer described the beginning of the match.

After losing the first set by a close score of 23-25, the loss seemed to ignite the Lady Hawks, and they came back to take the second set by reversing the score for a 25-23 win.

Archer described the rest of the match: "In the third set we came out and played Circle as well as I've ever seen. We overpowered them."

Broadus outplayed Circle in the third and fourth sets to take the win, 25-12 and 25-16, over a tough Lady Wildcat team.

Archer commented: "Zeason Schaffer, Aspen Krantz, Mia Mader, Oliveah Schaffer, and Kendal Stanley did a great job attacking Circle, and the passing to our setters Lucinda Cain and Lauryn Billing, as well as their setting was fun to see. It was a great match!"

Broadus traveled to Terry on Saturday to face the Lady Terriers. Broadus was able to handle Terry in three straight sets, 25-17, 25-8, and 25-12.

Even with the win, Archer commented that Terry played well on defense, as the Lady Hawks often had a tough time getting the ball down against Terry.

Broadus was able to play some of the younger and newer players in the third set and still went on to get the win. Archer noted that a new player, Kiara Kelly, played well against Terry.

This week in practice Archer looks to cement the defense, noting some coverage issues that needed work in matches last week.

Broadus hosts Wibaux this Friday, a team which hasn't been performing like they were in years past, but is still not a team to overlook. Broadus will then travel to Plevna this Saturday.
